i’m starting to lose my fucking mind and grainy old pictures of bad apartments are taking on the qualities of fine wines. look at this fucking bathroom photo and how every object in the shot is somehow half-cropped out of the frame it’s like an anti-renaissance painting and you would have to consciously try to take a photo that communicated any less information about the bathroom of this apartment
janus films’ criterion collection is one of the more thoughtfully curated film archives around, but this is a kindly reminder in visual form that no matter how highly you value what they do put out, no matter how you count their releases, a collection whose release count still hovers around a mere thousand films total will never make for a “comprehensive” eye on cinema.
not that a movie nut should need that to be said, but, y’know, i like swinging for the cheap seats …
I was going to say something stupid to this, something along the lines of that defunct Criterion covers Tumblr, but then I think, why haven’t they gone after films like True Stories?
